Planning A Diving Board For Your Pool? Here Are Some Considerations

Hiring a local pool construction company that can design and build an in-ground pool to meet your specifications gives you the ability to think of a multitude of details that will make the pool a perfect recreational spot for your family and friends for years to come. One thing to think about now, rather than when the pool is complete, is whether or not you want a diving board. There's little question that this addition can make getting into the pool a lot more fun. If you favor a diving board, you may want to consider the following pool details.

Deep End Depth

If you want to have a diving board at the edge of your pool, you might think about having your pool company dig the deep end of the pool to be a little deeper. People will be keen on jumping and diving off the diving board and descending deep into the water. A deeper deep end not only makes your pool safer for those who use it but can also make diving more fun. For example, if you were leaning toward an 8-foot deep end prior to opting for a diving board, you might decide that a 10-foot depth is better.

Total Pool Length

Many in-ground swimming pools have a rectangular shape. While your yard will partially influence how long the pool can be, you might decide to go with a longer design once you choose to have a diving board. Having a longer pool will allow people who congregate in the shallow end to be positioned well away from the splashing that occurs when people jump off the diving board. The longer the pool, the more distance there will be between the diving board and the shallow end. For example, if your kids and their friends are having a cannonball competition, you and other parents will be able to comfortably hang out in the shallow end without being splashed.

Ladder Placement

It's common for an in-ground pool to have a ladder that provides access in and out of the shallow end, but not every pool also has a ladder in the deep end. If you're going to have a diving board, having a ladder in the deep end is valuable. Younger pool users will often enjoy taking repeated jumps and dives, and it's not always handy to have to swim to the ladder in the shallow end to climb out. A ladder in the deep end will get a lot of use when people are diving and jumping.
